i used the original free version for about a year untill i changed pcs and overlooked it in my new set up. recently i decided to re-install it and ran into this new version. the old saying, "if it works don't fix it" definitely applies here. these people have taken a successful thing and turned it into something bordering on the ugly...they have changed everything, the color now is the usual fisher-price/vista blue and silver. you can set the time to be announced in some foriegn languages if that's importent to you and i believe there is multiple alarm capability; i don't know as i uninstalled it after about an hour...i just couldn't take that dull voice...i miss the friendly little voice i had gotten used to. for example, she used to say "the time is eight o'clock." this new voice says, "it's eight o'clock! very dull and abrupt sounding. now for the kicker, these bozos, having ruined a good thing, now want you to pay for something you've used for free for years. here's the kicker, they want thirty bucks for this. about eight years ago i sent a .00 contribution for the original...i wonder if i get a credit? yeah, right, forgetaboutit. they can keep it and their doom and gloom sounding toy clock. i am curious, do they actually get people to pay 30 bucks and more for this thing or do they make all of their money from ads, of which there are plenty. be careful if you try to download the free version, it will be version 2 when you open it on your pc. these guys are tricky which leads me to believe that there is something afoot here....time will tell. be vigilent if you dl this thing. here is a hint to this groups approach..."guidelinesbetanews reserves the right to remove any comment at any time for any reason". translation: if you do not talk nice about us, you're outta' here!

i used defender early on in xp, never found one thing. now 1 1/2 months later in vista, still the same, never finds anything while webroots spysweeper is often triggered. i went to edit a photo using windows photo gallery and immediately spysweeper prompted me of an embedded trojan, windows defender, not a peep. i use defender for the software explorer under tools. nice feature, i give it a 3 for that.

well,i guess that for xp os it's the time to r.i.p.there's no reason to span the use of an os over two decades.then, if someone argue that windows 8 is just for tablet i reply: if you leave it intact with no tweaking / customizations yes you're right.but as i use no tablet nor i will, i tweaked the windows 8 in order 2 remove all the metro things it allowed me (nearly 100%).i'm a fanatic of the free of cost cloud computing, seeing it like a way to not buy internal / external hd, optical discs (cds, dvds, blue-rays), optical disc burners, etc.reviewing ms office 2013: moreover of some metro ui it's pretty much like its predecessor (2010) at first glance.points of disadvantage:1) it comes with just a small web installer (the complete suite is downloaded by the installer itself, not by the final user).2) outlook database for email addresses imap/smtp configs is still the 2010's old one; mozilla thunderbird has a huge database with almost any email server available on the earth. why ms don't use the same db as per the mozilla's one? who knows.these are my reasons to give it just 4 stars instead than a full 5 star rating.

dudeboyz i have had no problems running fre:ac on my amd + windows 7 home premium x64 based pc. it is imho one of the best cd rippers available. the fact that it is free is just a bonus.i have just up-graded to this latest version but not tried it yet. that said, i have no reason to believe it will cause any problems.i hardly ever give software products a 5* rating but this one deserves it.regards, peter

now it lists changes in build 143 too. the changelog on the website is modified only after the build propagates on the main mirror site(s), that's why the delay. however, the "check for updates" option in fbackup itself always show the latest changelog until you update it, so before updating you can see if you need to do so or not.
